Two NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available in the cancer research lab of Tony Amelio (www.ameliolab.org), located within the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Amelio Lab applies an interdisciplinary approach that integrates use of bioinformatics, drug and CRISPR screens, novel mouse models, and biologic light-based tools to study tumorigenesis in vitro and in vivo. One position will focus on tumor heterogeneity and drug tolerance and is related to two recent publications in Cell Reports (Musicant et al) and Oral Oncology (Parag-Sharma et al). The second position will focus on the effects of biophysical changes in the tumor microenvironment on the tumor immune dynamics and relates to a separate Cell Reports (Carper et al) paper and recent manuscript currently under review. We are looking for eager, self-directed scientists with excellent writing skills. Our laboratory is currently funded by grants awarded from the National Institutes of Health.

Candidates with a strong background in the cancer biology, tumor microenvironment, immuno oncology, mouse models, molecular biology techniques, microscopy and analysis are highly desired. The applicant must be comfortable working with laboratory mice, with a few years’ experience of handling mice preferred. The applicant must possess good problem solving and organizational skills, be self-driven and enthusiastic, and should also demonstrate the ability to conduct experiments independently and under supervision and interact well with others. The UNC Lineberger Cancer Center is a world-class NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center that is routinely in the country’s top 10 NCI-funded institutes, thus providing a strong post-doctoral training opportunity in cancer biology and drug-development. UNC-CH also has several outstanding T32 postdoctoral training grant opportunities for eligible candidates (e.g. UNC-Duke Immunotherapy T32, Integrated Training in Cancer Model Systems (ITCMS), and T32, Cancer Epigenetics T32, among others).
