Postdoctoral Position at the Vaccine Research Center

Department of Health and Human Services

National Institutes of Health

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

The Biodefense Research Section’s Yeast Engineering Technology and Immunobiology Core Lab (YETI) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Vaccine Research Center (VRC), located on the main National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland, has an immediate opening for a creative and self-motivated postdoctoral fellow in immunology to study protein engineering and vaccine-induced and natural immunity to a broad range of pathogens using next-generation sequencing and yeast-display based approaches.

The YETI has developed an integrated microfluidics-based single cell sequencing and yeast display pipeline that is being used to investigate B-cell repertoires, discover high-affinity antibodies against pathogens, and characterize the quality of immune responses following vaccination or natural infection by pathogens (such as Ebola, HIV, SARS-CoV-2, SARS-Cov-1, and RSV). The YETI has developed yeast-based platforms and methodologies for engineering of proteins/immunogens to expand the breadth and potency of antibodies and immunogens. YETI is developing improvements to existing high-throughput methods to enable rapid analysis of immune responses against current and unknown pathogens. Additionally, YETI is developing approaches to understand viral evolution in response to immune pressures. Each of the utilized approaches seeks to leverage novel sequencing technologies, bioinformatics, and/or yeast display approaches.

Salary depends on qualifications and years of postdoctoral experience. All candidates must be within 5 years of receiving their highest degree.

Applicants who meet the following requirements will be considered for the positions:

  • Ph.D./M.D. in immunology, virology, bioinformatics, or closely related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Clear sense of organization, purpose, and accountability

While not required, experience with protein purification, structural biology, or multi-parameter flow cytometry is highly desired.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter and current CV to john.misasi@nih.gov.
