Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Biology (www.ecu.edu/biology) is a comprehensive department that emphasizes an integrative approach to the study of the life sciences. We offer undergraduate majors in Biology and Biochemistry and graduate opportunities at both the M. S. and Ph. D. levels. The Department of Biology supports more than 1,200 undergraduate Biology and Biochemistry majors and has a diverse, interdisciplinary faculty and growing doctoral and master’s graduate programs that will soon be housed in a new, state of the art Life Sciences and Biotechnology building. Opportunities for research collaboration exist both within the department (www.ecu.edu/biology) and across the university. Department of Biology resources, which support both research and instruction, include expertly staffed core facilities for microscopy, molecular, genomic, and water chemistry analyses, and high-performance computing and plant growth facilities.

Job Duties
The Department of Biology at East Carolina University invites applications for a Fixed-Term Teaching Instructor, Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor position in Biology for the 2021-2022 academic year. This individual would contribute to the instruction of 4 courses during each of the fall and spring semesters. These courses would largely focus on high demand foundation courses for majors and/or general biology for non-majors and/or a sophomore level course in ecology. Contingent upon available funds.

Minimum Education/Experience
Acceptable qualifications for Teaching Instructor include master’s degree in Biology, Environmental Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology or other related fields. Acceptable qualifications for Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor include terminal degree in Biology, Environmental Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology or other related fields. All education must be documented from an appropriately accredited institution or certified as equivalent to required accredited education.
