Post Doctoral Positions in HIV-1 host-virus interactions, latency and therapeutics- Kalpana Laboratory-Genetics
Kalpana Laboratory in the Department of Genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking to fill a post-doctoral position immediately. Highly motivated PhDs are needed to take part in exciting HIV/AIDS projects.
Kalpana laboratory is investigating host-virus interactions of HIV-1 and the mechanism of HIV persistence and latency. These studies are focused on the interaction between integrase and INI1/SMARCB1. Recent NMR structural studies and modeling of the IN-INI1 domain complex have revealed unprecedented RNA mimicry of INI1/SMARCB1 domain (Nature Communications 2021) and have led to the development of novel class of anti-HIV-1 therapeutics. Kalpana laboratory is also investigating of mechanism of HIV-1 persistence using single-cell and single-molecule RNA-FISH and RNA-seq, and the role of INI1/SMARCB1 on HIV-1 transcriptional and post-transcriptional events. In addition, there are opportunities for studying the tumor suppressor function of INI1/SMARCB1 (Acta Neuropathologica 2021) in the hopes of developing better therapeutics for cancer. The individuals to be appointed will have the opportunity to spearhead these exciting projects designed to unravel the molecular mechanisms of HIV/AIDS and Cacner using molecular biology, biochemistry, virology, structural biology and cell biology approaches.
