We have the following exciting opportunity in our Foster City, CA location:

Environmental Health and Safety Program Manager

The role of EH&S Program Manager is to provide Radiation Safety and Biosafety expertise and support to Research groups at the Gilead, Foster City campus. The successful candidate will use effective time management skills with minimal supervision on projects of moderate to challenging complexity. This will include identification, development, update and maintenance of compliance and safety programs, protocols, and procedures in collaboration with research and development staff. The EH&S Program Manager explains information and influences others and ensures successful implementation of programs and directives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Radiation Safety program and serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) at the Gilead Foster City campus.

  • Serve as the Alternate Biosafety Officer (ABSO) at the Gilead Foster City campus.

  • Perform Injury and Illness investigations, root cause analysis, data trending, program audits and laboratory safety and compliance inspections. Present findings and recommendations to management while ensuring alignment on action plans.

  • Provide general and program specific EH&S training.

  • Serve on the Emergency Response Team requiring periodic 24 hour on-call rotation.

  • Serve as an EH&S representative in cross functional and departmental projects and lead internal EH&S initiatives.

  • Demonstrate competent negotiation skills when dealing with challenging situations.

  • Establish a positive rapport with staff, scientists and management to ensure a high level of customer service.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer groups.

  • Provide EH&S support to our Seattle campus.

    Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience; Biotech, or related industry preferred.

  • B.S. in basic science or engineering is required, advanced degree is a plus.

  • General understanding of relevant occupational health, safety and environmental regulations

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and standards governing etiologic agents and radioactive materials.

  • Demonstrated implementation of EH&S programs in a research and development environment.

  • Demonstrated success with leading management and peers without authority.

  • Demonstrated experience in interacting with working in or leading cross-functional teams, and under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to multi-task, effectively shift priorities and work at a rapid pace is required.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to influence others across multiple functional areas.

  • Strong focus on customer service.
