The Chair of Quantum Optics at the University of Siegen seeks, at the earliest possible date, a
Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)
(100% = 39,83 hours, Salary Group 13 TV-L, term-limited until 30/04/2025)
for the research project ‚Scalable Quantum Computer with High-Frequency Controlled Trapped Ions‘ (MIQRO).
About us:
At the chair of quantum optics, we have pioneered a novel, ground-breaking way of controlling ions for quantum information processing with high-frequency radiation. Now, together with our partners in MIQRO, we are looking to scale this system for eventual use in a large-scale quantum computer.
Your responsibilities:
You will take a role in the development, design, construction and operation of a RF-controlled quantum computer. You will perform and analyze experiments and publish the results. Your duties will entail cooperation with external partners, both from science and industry. You will likely also be involved in applying for grants and third party funding. In all these tasks, you will also work in close cooperation with our recently founded start-up, eleQtron GmbH, which separately works on the commercialization of quantum computers.
Your profile:
You have a PhD in experimental physics, and in-depth knowledge of quantum mechanics. Beyond that, you should have some experience in and knowledge of several of these areas: experimental quantum optics, quantum information processing, laser spectroscopy and laser cooling, atomic physics, microwave engineering, laser engineering, optics, vacuum engineering, control electronics and automatization of experiment control.
Naturally, we expect you to be highly motivated and interested in this field. You should be able to take the initiative and work independently, but still function in close collaboration with a team.
Our offer:
- Advancement of your scientific qualification according to the German federal act on scientific contracts
- Cooperation with a high-tech start-up with plenty of opportunity to gain experience and network in a burgeoning industry
- Responsibility in a field with substantial creative autonomy
- An agile environment tailormade for innovative research
- Flexible working hours, a creative and nurturing environment, dual career service, coaching/mentoring and a program for professional development
