Gilead is seeking an experienced scientist with virology and/or immunology expertise, to join its Clinical Virology group, focused on supporting the development of its HIV portfolio, which includes long-acting treatment, prevention of HIV infection and therapeutic modalities aimed at eradication of HIV. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams, conducting non-clinical efficacy studies, characterization of viral resistance, and will support translational and clinical studies.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

- Support the development of new therapeutics for HIV

- Develop and maintain knowledge of HIV virology, immunology, and treatment options

- Work cross-functionally in a complex and fast pace research organization

- Build and cultivate close interactions with Gilead R&D groups and relevant functional areas

- Establish and support relevant external collaborations and relationships

- Provide leadership for translational studies evaluating biologics or small molecules

- Supervise and mentor scientists supporting Gilead HIV R&D portfolio

- Support regulatory filings and lead pharmacology sections for initial and new drug applications

- Represent clinical virology on cross-functional teams for new and ongoing HIV clinical trials

- Lead inter-departmental meetings, communicate vision, strategy and research results to Gilead R&D

- Represent Gilead externally at scientific meetings, and through high impact scientific communications

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

- PhD or equivalent graduate degree in microbiology, virology, immunology, immuno-virology, immuno-oncology, or related life science discipline; biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred

- Minimum 8 years of post-doctoral experience with proven high-impact achievements

- Goal-oriented and effective leadership capabilities

- Ability to conduct non-clinical and translational research to support immune-based therapies

- Advanced written and oral communication

- Advanced management and organizational skills, combined with ability to lead complex projects
