The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Carver College of Medicine at The University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Bacteriology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This tenure-track position includes a 12-month appointment, fringe benefits, competitive start-up package, ample office/laboratory space, and access to state-of-the-art core facilities, instrumentation, and BSL3/ABSL3 space. The primary appointment of the faculty member will be in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and to participate in teaching activities in the Department.
All applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., postdoctoral research experience, and a strong record of research accomplishments. Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have an established and funded research program and demonstrated ability to mentor and teach Ph.D. graduate students. Teaching responsibilities may include either bacterial genetics or bacterial physiology. All areas of bacteriology will be considered. We are particularly interested in applicants with an interest in bacterial pathogenesis, bacterial gene regulation and stress responses, bacterial cell biology, bacterial behaviors, antimicrobial resistance, and how bacteria adapt to different environments, including in a eukaryotic host or complex polymicrobial community.
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology consists of 21 primary and 7 secondary faculty members with strengths in molecular mechanisms of bacterial, viral, and parasitic physiology and pathogenesis, host responses to medically important pathogens, and cellular biology.
