If so, this Veterinarian Manager role could be an exciting position to explore. As a Veterinarian Laboratory Animal Veterinarian, you will be responsible for interactions with Regulatory agencies (USDA, FDA, EMA etc) for program guidance, study interaction and design, risk evaluation, and regulatory compliance from a veterinary perspective. You will also plan and conduct experiments with animals and oversee broad areas of scientific work in various clinical disciplines This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following: Provide veterinary clinical care to animals at the Upper Providence site.24 hour veterinary cover has to be provided to all sites. Co-ordinate animal health monitoring programs at the site. Provide training, both diadactic and hands on, and verification of competency of the staff working in the animal facility. Advise on best practice to ensure optimal standards of animal health and welfare. Participate in the IACUC Process to to provide veterinary input to the protocols to ensure the use of animals in science is both ethical and responsible and incorporates the “3R's”. Contribute to the scientific review process for veterinary input. Provide specialist veterinary scientific input to drug discovery and development studies eg on surgery, anaesthesia. Develop and refine animal models to meet the needs of GSK scientists. Work with GSK scientists to understand study, programs and business needs. To make it a priority to develop an in depth understanding of the scientific background and rationale of programs of work and the associated therapeutic areas. Review the animal vendors used and confirm their practices meet GSK standards Participate in virtual and on site visits with third parties used by GSK. To provide scientific leadership and assist in communications to help provide a better understanding of the relevant scientific concepts associated with study work with other members of the IBPS department. Participate in the development, updating, implementation and evaluation of programs related to animal housing, care, sanitation, nutrition and environmental control of facilities. Promote communication of science and learnings within IBPS both UK and worldwide. Ensure timely communications across IBPS and across GSK. Control & co-ordinate the supply & use of vet medicines in compliance with current relevant legislation. Ensure own professional development. Responsible for assessing and recommending purchase of capital budget items. This includes responding to adverse events which may occur unexpectedly during studies to ensure action is taken to protect animal welfare and determine future plans for the study. There may be a requirement to halt studies on key assets if animal welfare would otherwise be compromised. Influencing decisions on animal health, welfare and husbandry issues when working in a matrices including IBPS and scientific staff. Taking a leading role in the management of disease outbreaks by working in matrix including IBPS and scientific staff at all levels. Working within matrices both within IBPS and with scientist groups to ensure high quality scientific in vivo work incorporating the 3Rs and with good alignment to scientific business need. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: DVM or VMD degree from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine with a license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state. Board Certification from one of the American Veterinary Medical College Experience with current Federal and State regulations applicable to in vivo research and AAALAC standards. 2+ years of experience with rodent and NHP clinical care The ability to participate in a rotation of 24/7 veterinary coverage with the veterinary team Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: ACLAM board certification Experience in research surgery with small and large animals Experience with rodent and NHP anesthesia Knowledge of sentinel testing programs Experience with training laboratory animal staff Experience providing support for an IACUC USDA accreditation Why GSK?
