The Department of Biochemistry is expanding its faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank (tenure-track). The department is seeking to recruit an investigator with an exciting research program focused on fundamental biological mechanisms. Proposed studies must be conducted on the molecular and cellular levels, with preference to proposals that complement and enhance our current research programs in metabolism, cancer biology, neurodegeneration, and structural biology (http://medicine.hsc.wvu.edu/Biochemistry/).

The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program and participate in departmental teaching at the graduate and professional levels. For consideration at the Assistant Professor rank, minimum qualifications are a PhD and/or MD degree, postdoctoral experience, and high-quality publications from the postdoctoral period. For consideration at the Associate Professor rank, the candidate is expected to have extramurally funded research program and sustained productivity documented by high-quality publications, grants, mentoring experience. 

The Department of Biochemistry offers a collaborative, multifaceted academic environment founded on research programs at the WVU Health Sciences Center and supported by core facilities. All faculty ranks are backed by substantial salary support. New faculty are further supported with substantial protected time from teaching and by a junior faculty mentoring program. West Virginia University is a comprehensive, land-grant University with 191 undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs, and an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students. The Department of Biochemistry is a part of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, which incorporates the WVU Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health.
