The Center for Precision Environmental Health at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. 

A top-20 medical school, ranked among the best research-intensive institutions in the USA, Baylor College of Medicine is located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest biomedical research campus in the world.  The Center for Precision Environmental Health is a highly interactive, interdisciplinary group of faculty, students and fellows working to understand the underlying causes of disease through research at the intersection of genetics, environmental health, epidemiology, and computational biology. The Center occupies dedicated space in the Alkek and Neurosensory buildings on the Baylor College of Medicine main campus, with open modern labs and office and administrative suites. 

Center faculty enjoy access to Baylor’s impressive state-of-the art core facilities at subsidized rates, outstanding M.D./Ph.D. and Ph.D. graduate programs, an inter-institutional NIEHS T32 training grant in Precision Environmental Health supporting pre- and post-doctoral fellows working at the interface of genetics, envirohmental health and data science, a P30 Environmental Health Sciences Core Center and a P50 Center of Excellence in Environmental Health Disparities. Baylor is also home to the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Candidates with cancer-relevant research programs and eligible for recruitment funding from the Cancer and Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) are especially encouraged.

Center faculty hold academic appointments in one or more of Baylor’s basic, translational or clinical departments including Molecular & Cellular Biology, Molecular & Human Genetics, Neuroscience, and Medicine.  Ample opportunities exist for collaborations with faculty across the Texas Medical Center, including The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), Texas A&M University, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston Methodist Research Institute, University of Houston, and Rice University.

The successful candidate will use innovative approaches to study important questions in cell and molecular biology, and be expected to establish a research program complementing existing Center faculty strengths in one or more of these areas: environmental health, cancer biology, developmental biology, cell biology, genetics, epigenetics, neurocognitive/neurodegenerative disease, complex congenital defects, and model systems of human disease, including vertebrate and invertebrate model organisms.  The selected candidate will also be expected to advance Baylor's strategic plan by contributing to initiatives in Population Health and/or Precision Medicine. 

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) with a strong record of scholarly activity.  Candidates for appointment at the Associate level should be nationally or internationally recognized scholars with consistent externally funded research programs.  The Search Committee hopes to draw from a diverse applicant pool, with applications from women and individuals from underrepresented populations strongly encouraged.
