Our Institute of Active Polymers in Teltow near Berlin is searching for a Research Scientist / Postdoc Characterization - Polymer materials and devices for medical use. This will be initially a temporary assignment for two years. The position can be filled part-time in principle.

Your tasks

  • performing quality control of products with focus on polymer analytics and hydrogels; particular structural characterization of polymers, physicochemical characterization and biological assays
  • performing trend analysis; scientific review and troubleshooting, defining, implementing and supervising corrective actions; compiling reports
  • preparation of hydrogels with integrated processing and synthesis steps as test devices to apply analytical techniques
  • set-up of new methodologies including: on-line process control; complex analytics for polymers and impurities such as liquid chromatography, gas chromatography or mass spectrometry; identification and implementation of powerful techniques compatible with rapid and time/cost efficient product release goals
  • compiling and checking the documentation of device qualification and method validation; planning of qualification/validation procedures according to regulatory standards and the quality management system for medical devices
  • active participation in the preparation of patents or publications, strong involvement in the transfer of the respective technology into industry for clinical studies and access to the market
  • training and supervision of the technical staff

Your profile

  • successfully completed degree (master level, university/university of applied science) in natural sciences, e.g., pharmaceutical sciences or chemistry with a focus on analytical techniques
  • PhD in the field of this call, preferentially combined with postdoctoral experience or experience in pharmaceutical/medical device industry
  • extensive experience in chemical and physicochemical characterization of polymers and products/devices for medical applications produced thereof, particularly hydrogels
  • familiar with the quality and regulatory requirements for manufacturing and quality control of biomaterials/medical devices, pharmaceutics or food products; work experience under a quality management system
  • interest in technology transfer, e.g. to start-up companies
  • strong organizational and communication skills
  • fluent business language in English or German, with a working knowledge of the other; international applicants are expected to continuously work on German language skills
  • high level of personal commitment and stress resilience
  • experienced handling of MS Office, CAD software and instrument software
