What You Will Achieve

As an Associate Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is seeking a highly motivated laboratory scientist to be a member of the Optical Microscopy Technology Center (OMTC) group. This Associate Scientist will be an integral member of a team which broadly supports the IMRU portfolio across various disease areas. The Associate Scientist will work closely with an experienced scientific team from the OMTC to be trained in and support tissue histology and other laboratory techniques to facilitate molecular phenotyping in tissue samples. In this position, the successful candidate will be collaborating with multiple groups within but not limited to the IMRU including discovery and in vivo biology groups.

Your strong foundation in general scientific practice, its principles and concepts will help in meeting critical deadlines. You will be relied on as a technical contributor to assess the assigned tasks and make decisions that involve direct application of your knowledge.

How You Will Achieve It

• Exercise and build basic team effectiveness skills {e.g., commitment, feedback, consensus management} within the immediate work group.
• Primary focus will be to learn and support basic histology techniques related to tissue cutting to place onto histology slides for various staining.
• Individual is expected to understand relevant scientific literature and develop robust technical competencies in the tissue preparation and routine staining techniques as directed.
• Candidate will be trained to perform basic laboratory functions.
• Candidate is expected to maintain high-quality, detailed experimental records within the electronic laboratory notebook.
• Assist in ordering supplies and prepare reagents/supplies as necessary to support the lab.
• Stay current on all departmental and corporate training.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• Bachelors of Science in Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biophysics or a related field.
• 1+ years of relevant lab experience.
• Familiarity with standard cell and molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR.
• Ability to use and comfort in using computers and appropriate software to perform basic data analysis, including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software.
• Excellent organization and planning skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of a team, strong motivation with a dedicated work ethic.
• Candidate is expected to be highly detail-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate and work in team environment.

Nice-to-Have

• Hands-on tissue collection experience.
• Real-life experience in cell or molecular biology methods.
• Experience with research microscopy imaging.
• Comfort with software tools such as Microsoft Office or Graphpad Prism
• Ability to multitask and be comfortable working in a multi-team environment and receptive to feedback.
• The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and quick learner excited by a role with high technical details and demands.
