Within The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center lies a powerful engine driving the future of new targeted, immune- and cell-based therapies: the Therapeutics Discovery Division. The Therapeutics Discovery Division is built around four platforms: The Institute for Applied Cancer Science (IACS), ORBIT (Oncology Research for Biologics and Immunotherapy Translation), TRACTION (Translational Research to Advance Therapeutics and Innovation in Oncology) and the Neurodegeneration Consortium.

The IACS platform is focused on discovering and developing the next generation of small-molecule targeted therapies, driven by the needs we see in our patients. The team aligns world-class drug discovery and development research with the science and clinical care for which MD Anderson is known. We work in a fast-paced, milestone-driven environment with a focus on team science and interdisciplinary research. Our unique approach has created a biotech-like engine within the walls of the nation's leading cancer center to bring life-saving medicines to our patients more quickly and effectively. This model already has achieved results, with multiple programs currently in clinical and late-stage preclinical development.

The Institute for Applied Cancer Science is seeking a highly motivated and team oriented individual to join our in vitro Pharmacology group to support the Institute for Applied Cancer Sciences fast-paced drug discovery programs. The position requires exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to effectively present results and conclusions to co-workers and managers. A collaborative attitude is essential for this position.

  • Under minimal supervision, conducts laboratory experiments to assist in developing, optimizing, validating, and implementing biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based assays for medium and high-throughput screening to support small molecule drug discovery projects.
  • Execute screening and counter screening funnels for drug discovery programs.
  • Monitor assay quality and trouble shoot issues with assay performance.
  • Under direct supervision, assist with managing the IACS chemical compound collection. This consists of maintaining and updating a library of barcoded vials of samples, tracking sample inventory in an electronic database, preparing microtiter plates of the compounds, and providing compound samples to IACS researchers for experiments.
  • Analyze data and prepare written and oral reports for project teams.
  • Employ safe lab practices.
  • Maintain research records and laboratory notes.
  • Participate in integrated drug discovery research project teams.


Required: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Enzymology, Pharmacology, Chemistry or related field.

Education Preferred: Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Enzymology, Pharmacology, Chemistry or related field.


Required: One year of relevant research experience in lab. With preferred degree, no required experience.

Preferred: Research experience in a drug discovery setting. Prior experience with biochemical and cell-based assay development, as well as experience in the use of these assays for small molecule library screening. Strong computational/informatics/programming experience is a plus.
