What You Will Achieve

Cancer Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics seeks to discover and develop novel immune-mediated therapies for cancer. We are taking several approaches to this, including developing bispecific antibodies, cancer vaccines, oncolytic viruses, and combinations of agents. We are searching for a motivated individual with a basic scientific understanding of tumor biology and practical experience with various murine tumor models. The candidate will be required to proactively apply their knowledge to perform experimental work plans provided by their supervisor and effectively conduct their work semi- independently and as a member of the Translational Immunotherapeutics team. The candidate will be required to summarize and critique their results, with guidance from their supervisor, as well as on occasion communicate data effectively at work-group meetings. This role is laboratory based with a major emphasis placed upon executing murine tumor models, conducting in vitro/ex vivo assays and performing cell culture in order to elucidate the mechanism of action and biomarkers of immune-mediated therapies in development.

How You Will Achieve It

Tumor Biology Research
  • With direction, assist other team members in conducting murine tumor model studies that measure the preclinical efficacy of immune-mediated therapies.
  • With direction, assist other team members in conducting ex vivo immune assays to study biomarkers of efficacy and immune responses in murine tumor models

Laboratory and related work (~90% of time) with supervision
  • Perform cell culture work for tumor implantation models following an established SOP
  • Assist in the execution of in vitro/ex vivo assays
  • Assist in the design and execution of studies in relevant in vivo immuno-oncology-related models in a vivarium.
  • Perform routine animals handling, multi route dosing, tumor volume measurements, blood and tissue collection I.V. injection experience in rodents is highly desired
  • Identify and report any experimental problems, troubleshoot causative factors, and suggest necessary corrections in discussion with supervisor.
  • Support general laboratory operations including daily preparation of buffers and solutions, ordering and re-stocking laboratory supplies, maintaining a clean and safe work environment and maintenance of equipment.
  • Regularly records experimental work upon completion in electronic notebook systems and archive raw data on server databases.

Communication

  • Actively contribute ideas in group and line meetings.
  • Effectively work within a team atmosphere to execute on complex and high-volume study protocols
  • Provides clear, concise and timely responses for data and experimental information to line manager and project teams.

Scientific/ Technical Knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in primary and cell line culture
  • Demonstrated experience in one of the following ex vivo assays: cell based assays (preferably immune assays); basic flow cytometry; molecular biology (DNA/RNA extraction; qPCR etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience with murine models, preferably murine tumor models. IV injection experience is highly desired.
  • Practical understanding and application of statistical methods to experimental design and outcome measures.

Qualifications

Must-Have
  • B.S. or M.S. degreein life sciences
  • 3+ years of experience working in a laboratory setting that routinely performs ex vivo and in vivo experiments in murine models, for candidates with B.S.
