Technical University of Darmstadt invites applications for a

University Professorship (W3) Product Life Cycle Management

(Code No. 340)

in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, starting at the earliest possible date.

Product Life Cycle Management deals with the development and evaluation of products and processes in a life cycle perspective. The mapping and evaluation of the product life cycle in virtual space has applications in all areas of mechanical engineering, such as energy systems, mobility, production and life science engineering. The design, integration and use of digital technologies, especially in the early stages of product development, offer innovative options and opportunities for product life cycle management.

The position holder is expected to take over the leadership of the subject area “Product Life Cycle Management” in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and to represent the subject in research and teaching. We are looking for a person with national and international scientific credentials who has excellent specialist knowledge and a relevant research profile. The applicant must be proven by original scientific achievements and should have implemented innovative methods in practice.

In the Bachelor’s degree programme of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the future holder of the position should, in particular, impart competences in computer-aided design (CAD) and the necessary methods of data management (PDM/PLM). In the Master’s degree courses, in-depth aspects of digital process chains, data-based engineering and methods of life cycle assessment are to be dealt with.

The research tasks include in particular the development and design of models, methods and tools for information modelling, for cross-life cycle data management along digitally supported (CAx) process chains, for the digital representation of real products and processes, for system analysis methods and for life cycle assessment.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to national and international collaborative research and to initiate and participate in interdisciplinary projects with other departments and research groups.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in engineering or natural sciences with suitable pedagogical qualifications, an excellent knowledge of German and English as well as the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German “W-Besoldung” and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. The regulations for employment are specified under §§ 61 and 62 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).

Technical University of Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female faculty members and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Technical University of Darmstadt is certified as a family-friendly university and offers a dual career program.
