Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Jun 14 2021 We are currently looking for experienced organic and/or medicinal chemists to join our Medicinal Chemistry team in suburban Philadelphia. Our department is responsible for discovering high-quality small molecule drug candidates to address increasingly complex disease areas. In partnership with GSK's research units, Medicinal Chemistry manages a portfolio of diverse drug-discovery projects from hit generation through to candidate selection. The purpose of the role is to provide a high level of scientific and technical leadership within the Medicinal Chemistry Department while driving innovative problem solving on drug-discovery projects. You will identify opportunities to accelerate the discovery of candidate molecules through the strategic deployment of conventional synthesis, parallel synthesis and high-throughput chemistry technologies from the hit-to-lead phase through to candidate selection in support of GSK's oncology, immunology, respiratory, and global health small molecule portfolios. The Scientific Leader is responsible for managing the delivery of the science within their matrix team and driving innovative technology strategies within Medicinal Chemistry programs. Successful candidates must be able to think creatively, champion the needs of the organization and work collaboratively within a team environment. Continuous improvement of themselves, the team and the department while maintaining a positive attitude is a key requirement of the position. The role will involve chemistry and / or program data analytics, designing arrays of compounds to test medicinal chemistry hypotheses, designing and executing synthetic routes and leading technological advances in the field. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to portfolio programs, molecular design, and chemical synthesis strategies to deliver value to Medicinal Chemistry programs from early to late discovery stages. Provide scientific leadership and influence early targets and lead discovery strategies through the application of modern parallel synthesis technologies and advanced design tools and software applications. Champion the use of in silico design tools and work with Computational Sciences to drive enhancements and adoption across Medicinal Chemistry. Contribute to peer reviews of programs within the Medicinal Chemistry portfolio. Deliver impactful contributions to medicinal chemistry programs. Responsibility to embody and enforce full compliance with safety guidelines and standard operating procedures Responsibility to embody and enforce full compliance with GSK data integrity guidelines Serve as a coach and/or mentor for individuals within Medicinal Chemistry. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: PhD in chemistry or equivalent related discipline. Four years experience in pharmaceutical discovery. Experience in modern medicinal chemistry design with implementation of chemoinformatic tools and techniques Expertise in synthetic chemistry; knowledgeable in the application of new synthetic methodology and execution of multi-step syntheses Record of peer-reviewed publications, patents, or presentation Preferred Qualifications: Scientific Experience of hit identification tactics and application of modern analytics and triage strategies to deliver multiple starting points for lead optimization. Experience in applying high-throughput or parallel synthesis technologies to accelerate discovery processes. Experience designing, evaluating and assessing large compound sets (>10,000) Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership within a team setting. Detailed knowledge of modern cheminformatics tools and technologies. Evidence of application of innovative synthetic chemistry to solve problems. Experience with utilization of automation in high-throughput chemistry applications.
