Saint Louis University and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology in the School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated investigator in pain research at the Professor level within the tenure track. The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, a vibrant multidisciplinary, highly collaborative and dynamic department, is also the home base of the Henry and Amelia Nasrallah Center for Neuroscience. Faculty members within the Department have expertise in several areas of pharmacology and physiology, with a particular emphasis in neuroscience and metabolism. The Department offers access to excellent core facilities and opportunities to join collaborative centers including the Liver Center, the Institute for Drug and Biotherapeutic Innovation, and the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, and internal funding mechanisms for project support. Members of our community have access to the nationally-acclaimed Cortex Innovation Community, to multiple local startup-supporting institutions and to the fast-growing, cutting-edge medical and biotechnology community which operates actively throughout the St. Louis region. While the position sits in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, candidates involved in related discipline actively engaged in pain research, such as drug discovery, structural biology and chemical biology are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD or MD/PhD degree. The ideal candidate will complement current areas of expertise of the existing Pharmacology and Physiology faculty in the area of pain and pain related research, should have an established national reputation in the field, robust research programs and current and longstanding history of independent funding.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to maintain a vigorous, independent, extramurally-funded research program, actively teach neuroscience, pharmacology and/or physiology in graduate and medical student curricula and participate in the training of graduate and medical students. The candidate will play key strategic leadership roles and contribute to the growth and success of the Center for Neuroscience.

The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology maintains a strong record of extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including a T32 training grant.
