ROLE SUMMARY

The selected candidate will join BioMedicine Design where we are building industry leading capabilities in research-grade manufacturing of AAV based Gene Therapies in Morrisville, NC.

This position will be responsible for managing the Process Development and Plasmid Production group (PDPP). The PDPP manager will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be responsible for overseeing plasmid production of various constructs at large scale to support the AAV manufacturing at our Kit Creek site. In addition, the leader of this group will take an active role in adapting and developing new plasmid and AAV production processes to drive innovative approaches to support Pfizer's gene therapy portfolio. The candidate will also engage as a team lead across units to provide scientific and strategic leadership to support gene therapy programs with guidance/recommendations as programs move through the portfolio, and assist in the evaluation of external assets.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the plasmid production group: Manage production schedule, material sourcing & inventory, adhere to tight timelines & deliverables, coordinate with various other units to meet requests and advise project leads on timelines / product quality.
  • Actively seek to adapt methods to improve capacity and optimize the plasmid production process.
  • Lead the development of new methods/processes to facilitate innovations in AAV manufacturing.
  • Takes the initiative to solve scientific problems and contribute to their resolution. Able to work in a fast-paced team environment with changing priorities. Works under minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of AAV constructs and capsids
  • Act as team lead for cross unit support in gene therapy portfolio development
  • Work in a multifunctional team to provide scientific and strategic input to evaluate data packages for external assets
  • Evaluate data and provide clear reports that can be shared and transferred to and from cross-functional teams. Responsible for the training and development of the PDPP team


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in a biological discipline (Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Cell Biology or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong background in Molecular Biology/Virology/Microbiology with technical expertise in bacterial and viral production.
  • Position requires a highly motivated individual with the ability to work closely with colleagues across different sites and units within Pfizer.
  • Collaborative, team oriented leadership management style is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to strive for results and lead innovation and change with minimal oversight. Applicants should be bright, organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment.Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and deliverables.
  • Applicants should also have strong oral and written communication as well as analytical and computer proficiencies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in large scale plasmid production
  • Experience with AAV manufacturing
  • Experience with bioreactors and/or chromatography
  • Demonstrated skills in implementing innovative change
