Position Title: Postdoctoral Position, Microbiology

Position Description:  A post-doctoral scientist position is available offering an opportunity to conduct research on the impact of specific dietary interventions on the microbiome.

The human gut microbiome is complex and variation between individuals depends on genotype and environmental factors, such as diet.  Dietary changes can induce significant changes in gut microbiota composition and specific diets have been associated with a reduction morbidity and mortality.  Dietary interventions have been shown to increase microbial diversity and to prevent the onset of chronic non-communicable degenerative diseases.  Furthermore, the complex interactions between the microbiome, bacterial metabolites, and host immunity are being uncovered.  To better understand these correlations with dietary patterns, controlled intervention studies on the gut microbiota composition are needed.

Our group is located within the Department of Laboratory Medicine, NIH Clinical Center on the main Bethesda NIH campus. 

Requirements

1. Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, or related discipline.
2. Prior experience in microbiology, microbiome studies, or immunology.
3. Ability to conduct research independently and work collaboratively with other scientists required.
4. Strong writing skills.
