Postdoctoral Fellow/Visiting Associate – Viral Vaccines

 The FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Office of Vaccines Research and Review (OVRR), Division of Viral Products (DVP) is recruiting to immediately fill a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Laboratory of Vector-Borne Viral Diseases. DVP employees are actively engaged in research on a variety of viral pathogens as well as live and inactivated vaccines. The DVP is located at the FDA’s White Oak campus in Silver Spring, Maryland and is part of the CBER research program, which includes more than 70 principal investigators. These investigators lead research teams in the fields of virology, bacteriology and gene therapy employing state-of-the-art techniques to address critical public health issues as part of the CBER mission. In addition to BSL-3, ABSL-3 and animal care facilities, the newly built laboratory complex at White Oak includes core facilities, such as flow cytometry and confocal and electron microscopy.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The selected candidate will be responsible for carrying out an exciting research program applicable to the area of SARS-CoV-2 viral vaccines. Specifically, the candidate will:  Plan and perform experiments independently  Performs a variety of virology, immunology, and pathology assays and procedures in BSL-2, ABSL-2, BSL-3, and ABSL-3 work environments including cell culture, RNA isolation, ELISA, western blot, qPCR, plaque assay, neutralization assay, and data analysis  Conduct research with animals  Interacts with other lab members  Prepare lab reports and manuscripts, present data at scientific meetings

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Biomedical Science, Immunology, Virology or equivalent doctoral degree (M.D., D.V.M., DVM., or Sc.D. etc.) within 2 years since graduation is required. Candidates must possess an outstanding publication record of research productivity, exceptional written and oral communication skills, and experience in scientific critique.

REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have broad knowledge related to molecular virology, immunology of viral diseases, or pathogenesis of RNA viruses with direct relevance to the development and evaluation of new viral vaccines. Candidates must be technically advanced, capable of driving a research project, and have experience with handling small animals. Individuals with expertise in animal models of SARS-CoV-2 or influenza viruses in the ABSL-3 environment are especially desirable.

SALARY: A highly competitive salary is offered commensurate with education and experience.

LOCATION: Silver Spring, MD
