Senior Research Investigator - structural studies of mitochondrial gene expression
An NIH funded position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Dmitry Temiakov in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Thomas Jefferson University to study mechanisms of human mitochondrial gene expression (Hillen et al, Cell 2017, 171(5)1082; Agaronyan et al., Science 2015, 347:6221, Ringel et al., Nature 2011, 478: 269). Dr. Temiakov’s laboratory is using biochemical and structural methods to study mitochondrial transcription and replication. The laboratory is located in a newly renovated space and has access to core resources for bioimaging, cancer research and structural biology. The Structural Biology Core Facility has recently acquired Thermo Scientific™ Glacios™ Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope equipped with Falcon 4 Direct Electron Detector. The laboratory has access to Krios TEM via NIH facilities.
We seek to hire a structural biologist with a demonstrated experience in X-ray crystallography and single particle cryoEM. Knowledge of the image processing software such as Relion, cryoSPARC, and crYOLO is required. Essential duties will include preparation of samples for CryoEM, data collection and image processing, model building and structure refinement. The successful candidate will join an interactive environment with multiple laboratories investigating important aspects of mitochondrial biology.
