Specific Responsibilities and Skills
The Director, IT Security - Global Cell Therapy works as Kite's head of IT Security functioning as the primary representative of the Gilead global Security, Risk and Compliance (SRC) organization for Kite. The person ensures that Kite takes advantage of the breadth of tools and knowledge available within the SRC department and helps to drive the deployment and adoption of IT Security Risk and Governance tools and architecture. The person represents and resolves Kite specific cyber security, data privacy and regulatory issues using both Gilead and Kite resources as needed.

The Director, IT Security - Global Cell Therapy is a critical partner of the Kite IT & Commercial teams to expand the reach of Kite treatments to more centers around the globe. The person will regularly interact with CISOs and medical staff at hospitals around the globe to provide confidence in Kite's ability to protect sensitive health information. The candidate will regularly participate in audits of current practices and procedures to ensure compliance with FDA, HIPPA, GxP and SOX requirements.

This role is based in Santa Monica, CA, reporting to Sr. Director of IT SRC.

This role will be accountable for, but not limited to, the following key responsibilities:
  • IT Security and Compliance for Kite as well as support IT Security training and consulting around the globe.
  • As part of Gilead/Kite IT Security team, will support the rollout of IT Security initiatives and systems globally.
  • Guide IT & business teams in selection, design & implementation of technology solutions, providing means to design IT Security into the design from the start.
  • Find opportunities to rationalize and improve IT Security landscape.
  • Function as head of Kite security incident management team informing and engaging senior leadership throughout the Kite and Gilead organization as required.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in management information systems, computer science, engineering or other IT-related major, or 10+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in IT security, privacy and risk management domains
  • Information Security Certifications (CISSP, etc.) or other related security certifications


Knowledge, Experience and Skills
  • 10+ years of IT work experience with progressive responsibilities
  • 5+ years of Cyber Security protection experience
  • A thorough understanding of HIPAA, GDPR and CCPA requirements is necessary
  • Knowledge of information security principles, concepts, practices, systems software, database software, and immediate access storage technology to carry out activities relating to security certification and accreditation
  • Ability to provide expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical information technology security issues
  • Prior working experience in a pharmaceutical company is a big plus
  • Ability and comfort in presenting to senior management within the enterprise as well as to peers at the hospitals
  • Experience supporting commercial patient solutions is a plus
  • A thorough knowledge of IT Security best practices and architecture appropriate to the handling of PHI and intellectual property
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and communicate real business risks in relation to technology risks
  • Ability to create or review procedures for protection of systems and applications
  • Recommends and coordinates the application of fixes, patches, & recovery procedures in the event of a security breach
  • Extensive experience in Cyber threat and vulnerability analysis and remediation
  • Forensic examination and data preservation
  • Very strong security awareness and knowledge
  • Proven ability at building working relationships with partners, peers, and senior Management
  • Leads, performs or reviews security incident investigations
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple topics and demands concurrently
  • Working knowledge of IT processes (i.e., ITIL) including incident, problem, defect, change and release management
  • Highly organized, results-oriented, practical and attentive to details
  • Self-motivated, proactive, independent and responsive - requires little supervisory attention
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation and diplomacy skills
  • High level of personal integrity consistent with Gilead's core values
