What You Will Achieve

The Viral Vaccine group is seeking an associate scientist to join our highly dynamic team in vaccine development. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the antigen discovery, antigen optimization, and the assessment of protein quality. The incumbent will assist with protein expression in bacterial and mammalian cell culture, alone with performing molecular biology related work as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining cell lines, supporting protein and antibody biochemical characterization studies, and daily laboratory operations. Experience with protein purification is a plus. Work is to be done in a compliant manner according to relevant SOP guidelines and cGLP and/or cGMP guidelines where appropriate. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic and be adaptable to a dynamic environment.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Support recombinant protein expression in bacterial or mammalian cell culture and test expression via immunoblot-based techniques.
  • Perform molecular techniques that include (but are not limited to) PCR, Gibson assembly, cloning, Sanger sequencing, and DNA preparation (Maxi-prep etc).
  • In collaboration with manager, interpret and summarize experimental data. Present experimental results at group meetings.
  • Support maintenance of laboratory supplies and performs other laboratory duties as assigned.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in compliance with the Pfizer Laboratory Notebook Policy.
  • Satisfactorily complete all safety training in conformance with Departmental requirements. Where applicable, performs job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP/GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements.


Qualifications

Must-Have

B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences or related field with 0-2 years of full-time laboratory research experience. Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, Excel or Graphpad Prism, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Basic laboratory training in aseptic technique is essential. Ability to work with infectious agents safely. The capacity to work effectively in a highly visible research program with time-constrained milestones.
