We are seeking an organic chemist to join the Chemical Technology group within Chemical Research and Development. The Chemical Technology group comprises our high-throughput screening labs and our dedicated high-pressure chemistry lab. This group is responsible for the development of process technology to produce Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Our scientists utilize automation and technology to speed development, enable rapid adoption of new chemistry, and assist in identifying and optimizing commercial synthetic routes. Our scientists' partner with chemistry specialists in other disciplines including analytical, modeling, engineering, medicinal and process chemistry to support the development teams they serve.

The successful candidate will enable and develop processes for pharmaceutical drug candidates through automation, high throughput screening, homogenous and heterogenous catalysis, and technology in a laboratory setting. Partnering with multi-disciplinary teams involving chemists, analysts, and engineers, as well as representing the organization on cross-functional teams is necessary.

  • The successful candidate will work in the laboratory and assist in several screening workflow platforms within a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Design and execution of laboratory experimentation, interpretation of data to drive synthetic experimental plans and ability to utilize electronic tools (electronic notebook and automation software) to gather and document information.
  • Collaboration with process chemistry teams to generate data relevant to large-scale processing including continuous manufacturing.
  • Identification and development of new technology platforms for use in drug development.
  • Compliance with safety, regulatory, and other internal training programs.
  • Participation with departmental initiatives, continuous improvement teams, scientific presentations and external collaborations to influence scientific and business impact of the group.

  • PhD. in Organic Chemistry or related discipline (or within 6 months of completing a program). No industrial experience necessary.
  • Knowledge of synthetic methodology with a strong emphasis on catalysis including aspects of homogenous and heterogenous catalysis.
  • The ability to employ analytical tools, computational and statistical methodology, and automated laboratory technologies to enhance process development efficiency.
  • Experience with or a desire to gain expertise in heterogenous catalysis with a focus on hydrogenations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to effectively influence the work of others and a general knowledge of drug development and the pharmaceutical industry are key.

  • Travel is required on occasion in support of external manufacture or to participate in scientific conferences.
