The laboratory of Dr. Scott Earley (Google Scholar Profile: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=lR-xaZcAAAAJ&hl=en) is seeking highly-motivated individuals to fill two NIH-funded postdoctoral positions. Our research program, funded by a new 7-year R35 Outstanding Investigator Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, occupies the intersection of biophysics, neuroscience, and vascular physiology.  Our primary goals are to understand how transient receptor potential (TRP) cation channels, acting as essential molecular sensors of the brain’s internal environment, influence critical aspects of cerebral microvascular regulation to maintain optimal brain health and function. Projects are available to investigate many aspects of vascular function, including autoregulation of blood flow in the brain and neurovascular coupling. Another collaborative project, funded by NINDS, investigates genetic and age-dependent mechanisms of progressive cerebral small vessel diseases.

A Ph.D., relevant research experiences, and a sincere passion for science are required. Applicable but not required, skills include patch-clamp electrophysiology, Ca2+ imaging, multiphoton, lattice lightsheet, and/or superresolution microscopy, pressure myography, laser Doppler flowmetry, single-cell genomics, small animal surgery, and experience with transgenic mice. Successful candidates will perform experiments, collect and analyze data, manage projects, train and supervise students, publish papers, and assist with preparing and submitting grants.

We are committed to the career development of our team. Individuals who join our group will be encouraged to develop new skills, receive intensive mentoring, and encouraged to submit fellowship applications. To apply, please submit a current CV, a letter of application describing your current research interests, and the names and contact information of three professional references to Dr. Scott Earley (searley@med.unr.edu).

Our laboratory is located on the main campus of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) in Reno, Nevada, USA. Reno is a vibrant small city near Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, approximately 200 miles east of San Francisco. Annual full-time salary will be based on the appropriate NRSA postdoctoral stipend level established by the NIH.
