Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) Biotherapeutics Discovery Group in La Jolla, CA is responsible for discovering and developing biotherapeutic drug candidates. The group is responsible for identification and engineering of Biotherapeutic proteins, protein production, and protein analytics. The group is currently looking for a Scientist to support the Biotherapeutics portfolio of Pfizer. The candidate will be responsible for the purification of membrane protein antigens and tool therapeutic reagents to advance the pipeline. The ideal candidate will be able to work closely with a team and communicate effectively to meet schedules and deadlines.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Expression and Purification of membrane proteins (including GPCRs, ion channels, transporters) for use in antibody discovery and/or structural/biophysical studies
  • Perform protein purification and analytics for the production of biotherapeutics leads, protein reagents, immunogens, and panning reagents
  • Characterize purified proteins by various biochemical and biophysical assays
  • Design and modify purification protocols to meet reagent requirements and deliverables
  • Effectively communicate research progress through oral presentations and written documentation


Qualifications Required:
  • BS or MS in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline with at least 5 (BS) or 3 (MS) years of related scientific experience
  • Experience in purification of proteins from insect and/or mammalian cell culture systems using chromatographic methods
  • Practical experience in insect and/or mammalian cell culture, and purification of membrane proteins is desired
  • Experience with AKTA FPLC systems and Unicorn software
  • Experience with protein analysis like SDS-PAGE, western blot, and analytical SEC
  • Experience in molecular cloning and expression construct design considered a plus
  • Experience in structural biology would be advantageous
