ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer colleagues have many perspectives, many backgrounds, and many strengths, but we share one goal: to improve the lives of patients. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join a team of ~50 scientist within the Primary Pharmacology Group (PPG) at our Groton, CT Campus, focused on the design, development and execution of in vitro plate based screening assays supporting hit identification and lead optimization for small molecule drug discovery programs across Pfizer research units. Working collaboratively with project teams and PPG colleagues, the successful candidate will join the High Content Imaging screening facility to support both target-based and phenotypic programs. This candidate will play a leading role in developing and validating robust high content imaging and/or high throughput flow cytometry assays using physiologically relevant disease models.

Applicants should have strong personal drive and leadership skills to work independently in a highly robotized high content imaging laboratory setting. Importantly, the candidate should have a strong background in cell biology and biochemistry and should be able to rapidly become proficient with new technologies, equipment, and data analysis software. Key to this role is the ability for the candidate to work with complex, multi-parameter datasets and propose creative approaches to challenging technical and biological questions. They will work in project teams with talented scientists from other disciplines (e.g. Chemistry, Research Unit Biology, Structural Biology and CROs) and should therefore possess very strong collaborative and communication skills to build productive partnerships.

The Primary Pharmacology group offers a supportive environment for colleagues, and fosters a culture that encourages openness, innovation and ownership of our science. We aim to provide scientific and growth opportunities for professional development commensurate with a colleague's goals and experience.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful Candidates will be expected to:
  • Support Hit identification and lead optimization for small molecule drugs discovery programs.
  • Contribute to the design of in vitro pharmacology strategies for target-based and phenotypic projects.
  • Design, optimize and perform high content imaging and/or high throughput flow cytometry assays using physiologically relevant disease models to drive small molecule hit identification and optimization.
  • Develop and implement automated image analysis algorithms and data analysis processes.
  • Review and interpret high content data results to project teams
  • Mentor and inspire less experienced colleagues across the Primary Pharmacology Group and Discovery Sciences department
  • Explore and implement cutting-edge science using novel technologies and analytic methods applied to portfolio advancement
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams of disease biologists, medicinal chemists, structural biologists as well as external partners.
