Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Gorman lab is hiring for an Assistant/Associate/Staff Scientist to design and conduct hypothesis-driven research projects; prepare reports and papers for publication, presentation and future research; assists with grant writing; and may oversee and/or manages research projects, summarize and present results, as well as guiding/leading graduate students, postdocs, and lab staff; may manage staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific theory and research
  • Demonstrates skill in formulating and testing hypotheses
  • Ability to conduct scientific research experiments, analyze, and summarize data and results
  • Ability to write and present technical, scientific papers, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Ph.D. in Immunology, but Molecular Biology, Pathobiology, Microbiology, Biostatistics, Cell Biology or a related field with some Immunology training or experience Good written and oral communication skills Ability to communicate and write summaries of results

    Doctorate

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience in immunology Strong publication track record (two or more first author publications) Interest in autoimmunity and/or infectious disease Experience in immunometabolism and/or with small animal models of autoimmunity or infectious diseases Experience with Flow Cytometry

    Physical Demands:
    Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
