Position Summary: Atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of heart disease.  The laboratory directed by Chiara Giannarelli, MD, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, and Associate Professor of Pathology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine has pioneered single-cell studies on the immune landscape in atherosclerotic lesions in the arteries of patients. This work has led to the discovery of immune alterations of T cells associated with stroke. These studies have led to a publication that in the aggregate rank in the top 1% of citations in the field. We have openings for talented recent graduates of Ph.D. programs in areas related to atherosclerosis, including vascular biology, immunology, and inflammation. The Giannarelli laboratory is in the recently established Cardiovascular Research Program at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, which is recognized as one of the finest medical research institutions in the US. Active collaborations with other outstanding investigators at NYU are an integral part of our research projects, thereby expanding the training depth that the successful applicant will experience. 
Job Responsibilities: The fellow will perform experiments in the areas of vascular biology, immunology, inflammation as related to atherosclerosis. This will involve working with mouse and cell culture models, CRISPR screens. The work will include single-cell RNA sequencing, CyTOF, and in situ single-cell analyses, collaborating with other lab members and outside laboratories. Independence will be encouraged as experience is gained. The fellow will design in consultation with Dr. Giannarelli the experiments, carry them out, interpret the results, present them at lab meetings, and prepare written summaries of the research for presentations and publications. The fellow will meet on a regular basis with Dr. Giannarelli.
