As part of the Helmholtz association, those concepts are integrated into large scale FEL facilities, such as FLASH at DESY and the European XFEL in Hamburg. The research roadmap at PITZ is focused on further improvements of pulsed photo injectors, developments towards high brightness CW electron sources, electron beam driven high power THz generation, and the exploration of short pulse, high intensity cancer radiation therapy. The improvement of the photocathode laser system is essential to enhance the performance and reliability of current and future photo injector systems.

About the role:

  • Work in an interdisciplinary team of physicists and engineers to enhance the performance and reliability of current and future photo injectors
  • Participate in the development and production of a new photocathode laser for PITZ; this work will be carried out in close collaboration with the FS-LA laser group at DESY in Hamburg
  • lnstall, commission, and operate the laser at the PITZ facility in Zeuthen, do further developments for specific needs
  • Participate in shift operation of PITZ for accelerator R&D
