The DAS Lead monitors changes and trends in the therapeutic landscape of lung cancer and thus provides end-to-end strategic leadership and disease area expertise across the Oncology portfolio. As a matrix team leader, she/he will lead a cross-functional team including commercial, R&D, and medical affairs functions. The DAST Leader will ensure a unified vision for DAS strategy across Oncology Portfolio and organization and drive a single view around key disease area variables or decision framework. In addition, this cross-functional team will generate, deliver, communicate and disseminate a high-quality disease area strategic plan supporting GSK's scientific and business strategy. Furthermore, you will contribute to various other initiatives for GSK oncology R&D, Franchise Medical Affairs, Business Development and the external community. Key elements of the role include: Define and anticipate the emerging patient journey across thoracic malignancies, while prioritizing areas of unmet need and aligning these to the GSK oncology portfolio Lead the Thoracic Malignancies Disease Area Strategy Matrix Team to establish disease area strategies that provide guidance and prioritization to asset teams about opportunities and areas of unmet medical need and generate strategically aligned development strategies Work in partnership with the 4 research units, experimental medicines unit and asset teams to ensure that the disease strategic expertise and input is integrated into the programs. Accountable for the communication of external information to the relevant asset teams through support of the overall product development plans and ensures that there is an integrated Disease Strategy plan across the portfolio based on strong medical and scientific principles, emerging external data, knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements, markets, business operations, the Business Development Landscape and emerging issues. Support our Business Development Team in identifying new in-licensing or collaboration opportunities within the disease area and contribute to the scientific and strategic assessment of opportunities and participate in due diligence efforts accordingly Build and maintain relationships with key investigators, external experts and academic cooperative thoracic malignancies, planning and conducting Scientific Advisory Boards, Disease Councils, presentations at national, regional or global Medical Affairs meetings and support of meetings related to the Oncology Clinical and Translational Consortium (OCTC). Driving innovation in design of clinical development plans and study protocols within the disease area, by bringing in disease insights and clinical research expertise, including novel clinical endpoints and patient segments. Developing and maintaining Clinical Development excellence in the disease area through talent identification, recruitment, development and retention, to support the pipeline and marketed portfolio. Additional Responsibilities: Build cross-functional partnerships to support the Thoracic Malignancies disease area and Oncology Clinical Development. Work closely with Medicine Development Teams and Early Development Teams to support governance presentations for novel trials and provide Disease Area strategic framework. Lead cross-functional Disease Area Strategy Team and establish a, unified view on important assumptions related to disease area unmet medical needs, the drug development competitive environment, anticipated changes in the treatment landscape and potential implications for the GSK portfolio. Monitor treatment landscape and emerging technology through conferences, medical literature, and other available training, to augment expertise in the therapeutic area. Partner with Early Development Leaders and the Experimental Medicines Unit to design and implement translational strategies Contribute strategic guidance and highlight clinical considerations to inform portfolio development strategies, individual study design and conduct, combination strategies, and disease area strategies Contribute to governance preparations in close collaboration with Clinical Development Lead and Medicines Development Lead or Early Development Lead for a program. *LI-GSK Why you? Minimum Qualifications: We are seeking a professional with the following qualifications and skills to achieve our goals: MD/PharmD/PhD or equivalent At least 15 years pharmaceutical or relevant scientific/medical/clinical experience required, with at least 10 years in Oncology (clinical development/medical affairs experience in thoracic malignancies is preferred as noted below) and 8-12 years of leadership and functional experience Robust knowledge of Oncology treatment guidelines, therapeutic competitive landscape, clinical development process and drug approval process in major regions. Cross-functional medicine development knowledge and strong business acumen (business development experience preferred) Deep understanding of the regulatory requirements related to global drug development. Preferred Qualifications: Clinical development/medical affairs experience in thoracic malignancies is preferred Prior experience in the search and scientific/medical evaluation of Business Development opportunities, including Due Diligence work, is preferred. Board certification/eligibility or clinical experience in oncology is preferred. Demonstrated track record of quality decision making and creative problem resolution in critical situations, based on assessment of all relevant supporting and conflicting information/factors and understanding of the wider context. Ability to adjust behaviors and priorities based on changing environment and dynamics. In-depth knowledge of medical aspects of GCP (Good Clinical Practice), ICH (International Conference on Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use), FDA, EMEA, NICE and other relevant guidelines and regulations Comprehensive understanding of product and safety profiles Broad experience in the principles and techniques of data analysis, interpretation and clinical relevance (e.g., ISS, ISE, competitor data, etc.) A recognized expert, conveying complex science with a high degree of impact through all channels Experience leading matrix teams with a strong reputation of inspiring and motivating high performance. In depth knowledge of medical and drug terminology and a sound foundation in pharmacology. Highly effective communication skills; able to present complex data, design, strategy to groups at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to produce written scientific communications with clarity, accuracy and rigor and in compliance with GSK control documents governing disclosure, publication and principles of scientific exchange.
