The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) Portfolio & External Research Operations Lead will serve as the primary IMRU point of contact (PoC) responsible for ensuring smooth operation of the IMRU Portfolio governance and External Alliance functions. The successful candidate will work with the IMRU Portfolio & Strategy team to organize and facilitate portfolio governance meetings, manage Portfolio Committee minutes and communications, and maintain and leverage system data to perform analyses to inform portfolio strategy and IMRU business planning.

In addition, the candidate to will be responsible for organizing the LT Alliance Committee meetings and will serve as an interface between the IMRU Scientific & Business Leads to 1.) review alignment of projects with strategic imperatives, 2.) facilitate project contracting and budget approvals, 3.) complete necessary compliance requirements, 4.) ensure appropriate tracking of data and samples, and 5.) develop tools to assess the performance of external investments.


Portfolio Operations

  • Organization of portfolio governance and Biology review meetings, portfolio governance minutes and communications, and maintenance of Portfolio Committee communication tools

  • Capture of actions and meeting summaries from TASAP or other advisory panels.

  • Activity Tracker & Snapshot Administration and maintenance of resource management and portfolio data.

External Science Operations

  • Works with Scientific Leads, Business Development (BD), and/or Procurement to facilitate contracting for Licensing & Research Agreements (RA), Material Transfer Agreements, Confidentiality Agreement and Fee for Service Agreements. Ensures quality of RA templates, completion of compliance requirements, and shepherds initiation and completion of contracting, and coordinates prioritization of contracting queue.

  • Organization of LT Alliance Committee meetings, capture and tracking of actions, and maintenance of LT Alliance communication tools

  • Partners with Scientific Leads & IMRU Business Ops to track milestone delivery, generate budget forecasts, ensure capture of final reports and compliant capture of data and biological samples.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Maintains Biology Plan repository, performs analyses, and generate reports to support IMRU Portfolio & Alliance management and Business Operations communications

  • Partners with IMRU Business Operations, StratCo and Global Project Management colleagues to understand project/portfolio level costs and IMRU portfolio performance, support annual business planning, and conduct portfolio modelling to support IMRU strategic planning.


  • Master's degree with 7+ years' experience in a biopharmaceutical research environment

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, web-based, and presentation-based communication skills. Ability to communicate with senior functional line leaders concisely, and confidently.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, MS Teams, and SharePoint;

  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and influencing without direct authority.

  • Strong ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with peers as part of a team; anticipates needs of other team members and proactively works to resolve issues and provide necessary information.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; experience with handling and QC of large volumes of data and use of analytical tools such as Excel and/or Spotfire.

  • Ability to independently initiate, organize, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously. Self-motivated to identify and use available resources and proactively reach out to others to identify and implement solutions to problems, when encountered.

  • Strong understanding of the drug research environment, the scientific disciplines, and the role of academic research and how they fit into the drug discovery ecosystem.


  • Familiarity with the Pfizer organization, particularly the R&D environment in Cambridge, a plus.
