Position Summary

A Research Associate II (RAII) position is available in the Lab of Dr. Tijana Jovanovic-Talisman. The position will focus on probing mechanisms of alcohol use disorders. Long-term alcohol abuse may lead to cancer and limit the life span of an individual by more than 20 years. Unfortunately, the scarce therapies that exist for treating alcohol use disorders are marginally effective. One challenge in developing new treatments is that alcohol does not bind to specific receptors. Rather, it perturbs the dynamics of protein-lipid interactions in the plasma membrane. To identify potential new therapeutic approaches, our laboratory has been probing the disorder at the molecular level. Using super-resolution microscopy in cultured cells and rat brain slices, our goal is to define the nano-organization of opioid receptors and relevant components of the plasma membrane. We expect this molecular level data to open avenues towards new treatments for alcohol use disorders.

Key Responsibilities include:

The RAII will work with cell culture and immunostain cells and rat brain slices. The RAII will use super-resolution microscopy and perform data analysis approaches to define the nano-organization of relevant biomolecules.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred
  • Two years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor's degree or

One year related research/ laboratory experience with a Master's degree
  • Experience in microscopy and cell biology
  • MATLAB experience is preferred
