Position Details: Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is recruiting a faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Professor rank with quantitative biology and genetic/genomic analysis expertise.  This position will provide an outstanding opportunity to integrate with investigators in the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary, and Critical Care Medicine (APCCM) and the Department of Biostatistics.  Quantitative bioinformatics approaches are needed relating to ongoing studies in the in the Division of APCCM related to mechanisms of lung diseases across the lifespan, emphasizing pulmonary fibrosis, COPD, acute lung injury, pulmonary hypertension, asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and lung cancer. 

Prior experience and/or specific skills desired include:  

  1. Developing methodology for and performing analysis of high-dimensional datasets, including single-cell transcriptomic, proteogenomic, immunogenomic, epigenomic, and cytometric data 
  2. Developing and implementing analytic approaches for time-series single-cell data and trajectory modeling 
  1. Quantitative methodologies interrogating gene regulation 
  2. Cross-platform integration of omic/single-cell data 
  3. Quantitative approaches to the analysis of germline genetic variation using WEG/WGS datasets in complex human disease 

The successful applicant will join a team of bioinformaticians that is highly motivated to develop and apply state-of-the-art methods to analyze and integrate high-dimensional datasets to unravel the underlying mechanism of complex disease. The position offers a rich environment for collaborative research. The team works closely with Vanderbilt Technologies for Advanced Genomics Analysis and Research Design (VANGARD), a shared research service core to provide genomics data analysis across Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The team has been working with the Division of APCCM for several years to characterize the genetic and transcriptome landscapes of lung diseases. 

Information about the Department of Biostatistics: 

The Department of Biostatistics at VUMC offers a full array of biostatistics, bioinformatics, and data management support, emphasizing long-term collaborative relationships with investigators in accomplishing the VUMC's research mission. The department currently has 57 primary or secondary facultysupported by 40 staff data scientists, and 12 computer systems analysts/IT staff members. The department houses the Center for Quantitative Sciences. Central to the department’s mission is national leadership in methods and measurement development.   

Information about the Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine: 

The Division of APCCM includes more than 90 faculty and >20 post-doctoral trainees focused on clinical care and research across the spectrum of lung diseases. The Division of APCCM is a premier site for lung disease research in the U.S. and is a highly successful member of Vanderbilt’s Department of Medicine, which is currently ranked 2nd in NIH funding.  Retention of faculty recruits to Vanderbilt is exceedingly high, confirming the collaborative, highly desirable work environment.
