Available Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in eye research

Institution: Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA

Position Description: An NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellow position is available immediately in Dr. Jing Chen’s lab in the department of ophthalmology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School to study the molecular basis of eye diseases. Successful candidate will perform research in animal models of eye diseases using both genetic and pharmacological approaches to study the underlying molecular mechanisms and identify potential therapeutics for vascular and neuronal degenerative eye diseases including retinopathy of prematurity, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Current projects in the lab include: 1) Wnt signaling-mediated blood-retinal barrier control and vascular leakage; 2) nuclear receptor-mediated retinal pigment epithelium oxidative damage and degeneration in dry age-related macular degeneration; 3) chronic ocular inflammation in retinal aging. Research fellow will be trained with various techniques including in vivo retinal fundus and OCT imaging,  single cell RNA sequencing, confocal imaging, and other skills needed for eye research.

Job responsibility: the research fellow will assist PI in designing experiments, performing molecular, cellular and imaging analysis in the projects, presenting findings in local seminars and national professional meetings, writing manuscripts for peer review, and assisting with research grant writing and reporting.

Detailed information of the lab’s research can be found at:

  • Track record of publishing in scientific journals;
  • Experience in wet bench lab work, including small animal (rodent) research work and cell culture.

Interested candidate please send a cover letter detailing your research interest and career goals, and a CV with names of three references to: Jing Chen, PhD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, chenlab.boston@gmail.com.
