A postdoctoral position with competitive salaries and benefits is available in Dr. Xinghui Sun’s laboratory for highly motivated candidates who are interested in the pathogenesis of obesity, fatty liver disease, and atherosclerosis. A variety of experimental approaches including state-of-the-art cellular and molecular techniques, multi-omics profiling, and mouse phenotyping are employed to identify the key mechanisms underlying vascular dysfunction of these complex diseases. Candidates must have a PhD degree in physiology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or related disciplines, and have strong background in cell culture, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, and small animal model systems. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team is essential. Previous training and experiences in one or more of the following research areas are preferred: 1) fatty liver disease and atherosclerosis; 2) multi-omics approaches, bioinformatics, and computational biology; 3) mitochondrial homeostasis; 4) protein posttranslational modifications such as neddylation in diseases; and 5) long non-coding RNAs. The position will be available from August 2021.

The Sun laboratory is located within the Department of Biochemistry. The current faculty members in the department work on high-impact research projects related to areas such as metabolism and metabolic engineering, molecular mechanisms of disease, plant science, and structure biology. This provides an outstanding cross-disciplinary research environment that contributes to highly successful, nationally, and internationally recognized research programs. The Sun lab interacts with other PIs within the department, at the Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases (https://cehs.unl.edu/npod/), and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (about 60 min drive) to create an excellent research environment.
