The University of Wisconsin-Madison Institute for Molecular Virology (IMV), in collaboration with the Departments of Pathobiological Sciences, Medical Microbiology & Immunology, or Biochemistry, seek to hire a full-time academic tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The faculty hire is expected to develop and continue a robust research program aimed at generating new insights into the molecular biology of viruses, particularly RNA viruses, their processes of infection, replication, structure, biochemistry, immunology, evolution, proteins & translation, and/or disease pathogenesis.

This position is one of a three-part synergistic hiring initiative, The Metastructures of Viral Infection, which focuses on multiple components of RNA virology, DNA virology and structural virology. The collective faculty positions expand and complement the Madison Virology Program (MVP). This particular hire is expected to develop or extend a research program geared toward understanding the molecular biology or biochemistry of viruses, with preference given to candidates working on cutting edge research directions relevant to RNA viruses that cause disease in animals or humans, or as emerging or zoonotic viral pathogens. The successful candidate will become an IMV member and an MVP Affiliate, joining a vibrant community of virologists, complementing and strengthening the UW’s outstanding breadth in biological research. The primary department affiliation and tenure home, among the above listed departments, will be determined based on research scope with significant input from the candidate.

Viable candidates will demonstrate a record of, or potential for: 1) publications in impactful journals; 2) success in obtaining individual and collaborative extramural funding; and 3) contributions to outreach, extension and service functions of the Department, College, University and professional societies.
We encourage applicants at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates for the appointment of Associate Professor must meet criteria for appointment at that rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, or College of Agricultural and Life Sciences guidelines for appointment and promotion on the tenure track.

The collective UW-Madison Schools and Colleges participating in this hire are all committed to maintaining and growing a culture that embraces diversity, inclusion and equity, believing that these values are foundational elements of our excellence, and fundamental components of a positive an. d enriching learning and working environment for all students, faculty and staff. We insist that all new hires embrace the importance of equity and diversity in the workplace.

Apply online at “Jobs at UW’ (http://jobs.wisc.edu) under job number 233319. Applications must be received through UW-Madison's online application system. Applications submitted outside of this system will not be considered. Applicants should upload the following as a single PDF document: 1) curriculum vitae (CV); 2) two-page description of research accomplishments and future directions; 3) one-page statement of past and future plans for contributions to diversity and inclusion.
Contact information for three (3) references will be requested at the time of application.
We advise that applicants notify potential letter-writers in advance that letters will be required to the department by September 15, 2021, if the candidate is advanced to the next round of screening. However, the position will remain open and applications may be considered until the position is filled.
