Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) remains the most common leukemia of adults and is incurable. Several novel therapies have substantially altered the treatment landscape for CLL, and studying the mechanisms of their activity, toxicity and resistance is of great interest. Our lab focuses on CLL, somatic and germline genomics of CLL and the mechanisms of these targeted therapies in CLL. CLL is one of the most familial of all cancers but the genetic basis of this remains poorly defined. We have previously shown that rare variants in ATM are associated with CLL, and this position will focus both on biological validation of the effects of those variants, as well as new gene discovery focused on the genomic study of familial CLL. We have a huge tissue bank of over 2500 CLL patients and over 1500 familial lymphoma patients that will provide the samples for these investigations. 

Requirements
This familial CLL fellowship will involve in vitro validation of the functional effects of ATM variants in primary cells and cell lines as well as extensive genomic analysis of primary CLL samples.  The ideal candidate will be able to perform their own bioinformatics analyses of genomic data.  Validation of key findings at the bench will also be required.  The ideal candidate will have familiarity and experience working with molecular genetics/genomics, molecular biology, flow cytometry, cell culture and bioinformatics.   

Qualifications

• Previous experience in molecular biology, cell biology, flow cytometry and informatics is required. 
• These positions will both include high-throughput genomic analyses and require good computational skills and familiarity with bioinformatics.  
• MD, PhD or MD/PhD is required.
