Job Title:  Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology

Classification:  Full-time, two-year, benefits eligible with the possibility of long-term renewal

Reports To: STEM Division Head

Job Summary/Objective:

Sweet Briar College invites applications for a two-year appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology with the possibility for long-term renewal. The successful candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher and have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, with expertise in ecology, evolution or organismal biology. The incumbent will contribute to teaching Introductory Biology, and have the opportunity to teach other courses in their area of interest, as well as teaching non-majors within our Leadership Core curriculum. The candidate should have enthusiasm for mentoring undergraduate research. 

The College's academic calendar, with immersive three-week terms bookending traditional 12-week terms, creates an opportunity for innovative courses to take advantage of close student-faculty interactions and collaboration across disciplines.  We are eager to build cross-disciplinary collaborations across the college including those that involve our agricultural operations, the college’s focus on sustainability, and our ABET-accredited engineering program.

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in an appropriate biological discipline; exceptional ABDs also will be considered. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Enthusiasm for mentoring undergraduate research.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
