Job Details

The primary purpose of the Research Scientist position is to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, carry out and evaluate specific research projects conducted Health Disparities Research, including behavioral intervention studies that aim to improve the quality of life among Chinese American cancer survivors. Ensures successful project planning, implementation, and closure. Provides input to cancer research efforts throughout the institution. Responsible for specific activities related to cancer prevention and control and health equity projects and for completion of other tasks and activities as assigned by principal investigator.

This is a non- laboratory position. The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English / Mandarin to support the Chinese community.

Job Specific Competencies
Research - Plans, organizes, coordinates in research projects, especially those which involve psychosocial research, cancer survivorship, cancer prevention, and health disparities. Reviews research activities, determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to problems. Serves on project teams, develops and implements research protocols, seeks IRB approvals. Performs or oversees data management and analysis procedures. Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research projects. Presents findings of research projects to professional groups and prepares scientific documents for publication. Drafts and edits grant applications, progress reports, and publications.

Research Management - Oversees research team members. Monitors and assists with management of budgets associated with assigned research projects and protocols.

Community/ Collaborative Partners - Establishes, cultivates and maintains working relationships and contacts with internal and community constituents, healthcare facilities and other entities to develop and facilitate collaborative partnerships. Interfaces with and supports community advisory group/s and other collaborators. Directs efforts for engaging community members, including coalition building, facilitating advisory groups, recruiting research participants, and developing partnerships for projects. Disseminates results through community and academic venues.

EDUCATION:
Required: PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred: Bilingual in English/Mandarin.
