The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to validate novel clinical imaging data processing techniques for cancer research and applications. This position will be part of multiple research studies that require recruitment of patients to participate in additional imaging during their regular appointment. Under direct supervision, the position will handle patient enrollment paperwork; assist with data collection and analysis; and work closely with physicians and surgeons in the OR, collect and transport tissues samples. The candidate will be expected to work in a highly interdisciplinary research environment with scientists and clinicians throughout MDACC. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills to facilitate optimal communication with surgeons and patients.


Patient Identification & Recruitment Chart review in EPIC/Surgery database to ID candidates; Reach out to patients to discuss additional imaging

Research data collection and analysis Provide forms to surgeon for patient signature; Walkthrough of the overall data acquisition protocol; Process paperwork; Run existing image processing scripts for data analysis

Patient and tissue sample transport coordination Transport tissue samples from surgery to pathology; Facilitate patient travel to/from CABI

Required Education: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Required Experience: Two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
