TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN CARDIAC MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING ENGINEERING
The Department of Radiology at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position in the area of magnetic resonance imaging technology development, with an anticipated starting date of July 1, 2021 or thereafter. The position will be within the School of Medicine at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Rank will be commensurate with experience, funding history and publication record.
Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio. The site of the famous Michelson-Morley interferometer experiment, the university is associated with 16 Nobel laureates. The Department of Radiology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals was formally established in 1946 and has a tradition of leadership in providing patients with state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging examinations interpreted and performed by world-class, board-certified radiologists. This extends to educational programs for residents, fellows and medical students who continue to be an integral part of our department.
The Department of Radiology has a history rich in research, collaboration, and innovation. This tradition continues with Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals forming the Case Center for Imaging Research (CCIR) (http://www.case.edu/medicine/ccir/), fostering an interdisciplinary team whose experts are focused on the continuous development of new and evolving research in radiology. The faculty participating in CCIR are made up of faculty from radiology (70%) as well as several other basic science and engineering departments. The Department of Radiology is comprised of nine divisions with research interests including for example the development of new imaging tracers, the acquisition of new MRI sequences, novel methods for PET/MRI and digital PET/CT, Spectral-CT, dual X-ray, and others. University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center’s Department of Radiology is involved in numerous internal studies, industry-sponsored trials, and NIH-supported grants. The Department of Radiology is committed to upholding the tradition of research excellence. The driving force behind everything we do is simply to provide patients with the best diagnostic and therapeutic medical care possible.
We seek outstanding candidates to establish or continue an internationally-recognized, competitively-funded individual research program in magnetic resonance imaging AND who have a strong vision for future research within our rich MRI community. This faculty member will also have the potential to lead the imaging collaborations in neuroimaging and/or between the Department of Radiology and the Division of Cardiology at University Hospitals. The research areas of interest include, but are not exclusive to:
- rapid MRI acquisition, especially those involving real-time acquisition and visualization
- quantitative MRI, including magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF) acquisition development, and
- (3) high resolution MRI acquisition and reconstruction, especially those with integrated motion compensation or correction.
Clinical translation is a major goal of our program, so previous experience working in the clinical application areas of cardiac imaging and/or neuroimaging is strongly preferred. The MRI community at Case Western Reserve University is highly collaborative, and thus a demonstrated background in team science is preferred. The candidate is expected to take advantage of the strong corporate imaging research relationships and the world class Case Center for Imaging Research. A key feature of the MRI group is the 35-year long collaboration with Siemens on MRI technology development and translation. A doctorate in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related Science/Engineering field is required. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the graduate training mission of the department, to contribute to diversity and inclusion, and to engage in departmental, institutional and professional service activities.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements on (1) research accomplishments and plans and (2) teaching and mentoring plans, (3) copies of three representative journal papers, and (4) the names and contact information of at least four professional referees. Please send these documents electronically in one PDF file to RadiologyCardiacMRISearch@case.edu. Any questions can be sent to this same email. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Applicants are also asked to submit a statement explaining how their research, teaching, and/or service have contributed to diversity, equity and inclusion within their scholarly field(s) and/or how their individual and/or collaborative efforts have promoted structural justice inside and outside institutions of higher learning. This statement should also reflect on the ways in which the candidate’s continued efforts will foster a culture of diversity, pluralism, and individual difference at Case Western Reserve University into the future
