Job Details

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct experiment in varied areas of microbiology, immunology, and other biomedical related scientific fields, particularly regarding the propagation and phenotypic, genotypic, and functional assessment of immune cells.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Research

-Manually conduct experiments and carry out research projects in varied areas of microbiology, immunology, and other biomedical related scientific fields.
-Utilize cell transfection methods to produce lentiviral particles for T cell transduction.
-Perform T cell expansion and phenotyping by flow cytometry.
-Assist with animal experiments and independently perform imaging.
-Perform benchtop procedures including gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, restriction digests, and Gibson Assembly on a regular basis.
-Utilize software (Snap Gene and Vector NTI) to design, plan, and carryout molecular cloning experiments.

Record Keeping and Data Collection

-Maintain accurate, detailed records and experimental data and protocols.
-Maintain accurate and detailed electronic and written records of experimental procedures and results on a daily basis.
-Prepare and present scientific data at group meetings.
-Discuss project details with supervisor and demonstrate understanding through written step-by-step protocols.
-Review literature on a regular basis to develop deep and thorough understanding of current trends in research area.

Laboratory Safety/Lab Equipment Maintenance

-Demonstrate and practice lab safety precautions.
-Receive verbal and/or written instructions from principal investigator on standards and specialized lab safety procedures.
-Attend annual safety courses required by MDA and other agencies. Handle, store, and dispose of radioactive isotopes, chemically hazardous materials, and bio hazardous materials in procedure specified to meet MDA safety guidelines.
-Follow manufacturer's guidelines regarding the handling and maintenance of all lab equipment. Have working knowledge of equipment operation manuals and procedure manuals whenever necessary.
-Order reagents and materials when needed.
-Monitor work flow as it pertains to the need for supplies, equipment maintenance, and preparing stock solutions.

Other duties as assigned

Required Education: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred Education: Master's Degree

Required Experience: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
