Job Details

The primary focus for the Program Director, Division Research Publications position is development and editing of scientific research content for various communications such as research proposals, book chapters, review articles and other scientific publications, annual research report and other communications describing the DCPPS' research. Writes for both internal and external scientific and layperson audiences in order to advance the mission of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences and the Duncan Family Institute for Cancer Prevention and Risk Assessment.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Cancer Prevention & Control Communications:

* Prevention subject matter expertpresentations annually for internal (BoV cancer prevention committee, State of the Division Address) and external audiences (professional orgs, governmental, academic institutions, etc.)

Conceptualize and write/edit/review cancer prevention and control project documents as well as funding proposals and case statements for philanthropic efforts

Identify, write, edit and review media pitches and articles on behalf of VP, around cancer prevention and control messages in conjunction with the Office of Communications

Leadership Communications:

* Serve as the Divisional lead for planning, organizing and writing both the Division and Duncan Family Institute annual reports

Serve as Divisional lead for creating and maintaining Division external and internal web content

OVP communications describing and facilitating the Division's research, clinical care, education/training, and cancer control

Prepare correspondence for VP, including donor appreciation letters, recommendation letters and letters of support for grants, promotions and awards for both internal and external faculty

Develop speaking points for media interviews/engagement

Direct, manage and maintain social media strategy and account(s) for VP

Scientific / Research Support:

* Assist in planning and organizing cancer control projects for MD Anderson's Cancer Prevention and Control scientific conferences

Develop, write and edit invited reviews, editorials and book chapters for publication in scientific journals and books

Maintenance of EndNote scientific library

Coordinate writing, editing and submission of donor progress reports in conjunction with students, fellows, faculty, and the Development Office

Independently evaluate research proposals, letters of intent and manuscripts, identifying their key issues

Assist with writing and preparing grant proposals.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, healthcare administration or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration, healthcare administration or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years project/program management experience to include three years supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
