What You Will Achieve

As an Associate Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will have the important role to generate high-quality immunoassay data in a regulated Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) setting to support Pfizer's vaccine programs according to Standard Operating Procedures. You will be involved in managing and supporting external Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) laboratories and internal assay development in the Immune Phenotyping Group. The candidate will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of equipment required for these assays and must maintain reagent and freezer inventory. Experience of working in a BSL2 level tissue culture laboratory is required, as well as an understanding of cellular immunology and the key assay platforms of flow cytometry and ELISPOT. The role requires good analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to clearly document and present complex biological data. Incumbent is required to multitask and work as part of a team that is required to meet business-critical deadlines.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Exercise and build basic team effectiveness skills {e.g., commitment, feedback, consensus management} within the immediate work group and external lab partnerships
  • Perform job responsibilities in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices/ Good Laboratory Practice (cGMP/GLP) and all other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assist in updating and writing documents associated with Immune Phenotyping work including information/data archiving, Standard Operating Procedure and status reports.
  • Perform isolation of Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs).
  • Assist in ordering supplies, maintain inventory and ship reagents/supplies necessary for internal and external laboratories
  • Monitor external PBMC processing labs throughout a clinical trial
  • Cross train on clinical assays in accordance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) requirements.
  • Present progress on assay development and sample analysis to colleagues and senior management.
  • Collect and analyze data on a per project basis to support troubleshooting, qualification and other lab projects.
  • Provide critical data review of clinical and non-clinical data.
  • Maintain and build a broad knowledge of key assay platforms (including flow cytometry and ELISPOT assays) and the scientific rationale underpinning the assays through appropriate training and self-learning.
  • Stay current on all departmental and corporate training.


Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with multiple external partners in a dynamic fashion.
  • Experience in working with human samples.
  • Experience working in a tissue culture laboratory with samples requiring BSL2 containment.
  • Experienced in conducting ELISA or ELISPOT assays
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate and work in team environment
  • Good Computer skills including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software


Nice-to-Have

  • Pharmaceutical and biotech drug experience
  • PBMC isolation experience
  • Clinical trial oversight and management
  • Experience in assay development and troubleshooting
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform physical activities such as standing or sitting at the lab bench or biosafety cabinet.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Travel to external labs will include the requirement to adhere to each lab's specific safety regulations
