ROLE SUMMARY

The qualified candidate will join the Analytical R&D organization and contribute to the development of biological therapeutic candidates. Within Analytical R&D, the candidate will join the Mass Spectrometry and Biophysical Characterization (MSBC) group. The qualified candidate will be responsible for implementing methods of analysis for the detailed characterization of proteins, peptides, vaccines, and oligosaccharides.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for utilizing the following techniques to confirm the intended structure of drug candidates: NMR, CD, FTIR, DSC, AUC, SEC-MALS, DLS, AFM and chromatography. The characterization of higher order structure (HOS) and high molecular mass (HMMS) are key elements of the position. The above skills will be applied to a large platform of projects in all stages of development.

Apply various biophysical techniques in characterizing proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, synthetic polymers, viral capsids, nanoparticles, small molecule metabolites, etc. to support understanding the biotherapeutic products and bioprocess development.

Carrying out NMR experiments, including data acquisition and processing, qualitative and quantitative NMR analysis, structure determination of unknowns and summarize this information in written and/or oral reports.

Participate in project teams and collaborate with colleagues from different functional lines to provide characterization support to advance portfolio.

Provide high quality analytical results for regulatory filing and participate in composing regulatory documents.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in physical biochemistry, analytical biochemistry, biochemistry, chemistry, or relate field, with 0-3 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in working with biological molecules by using a variety of biophysical tools.
  • Expertise with NMR data analysis software is required


PREFERRED QUALIFICIATIONS
  • Scientific knowledge of general analytical techniques (HPLC, FTIR, CD, AUC, CD) is desirable
  • Proficient in acquisition, processing, and interpretation of 1D and 2D NMR data
  • Hands-on experience with NMR instruments preferred
  • Skills and knowledge in other molecular spectroscopy techniques such as AFM, FTIR spectroscopy, light scattering spectroscopy, etc., is highly desired.
  • Familiarity about separation technology including liquid chromatography, field flow fractionation, etc. is also desired.
  • Knowledge in polymer science, pharmaceutical sciences, statistical analysis, structural biology and molecular modeling will be considered.
  • Previous employment in the pharmaceutical industry would be highly beneficial.
  • In addition to good communication and writing skills, the applicant should also be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based, fast-paced environment.
