SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to develop, implement and validate novel clinical data processing techniques for cancer research and applications. The ideal candidate is expected to have a track record in database management, mathematical model calibration, and will be expected to work in a highly interdisciplinary research environment with scientists and clinicians throughout MDACC and from partner institutions. The successful candidate should have a good understanding in data organization and software programming, demonstrating proficiency in Matlab, C, C++, MySQL, python, or R.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Computational Analysis Work with computing platforms such as Unix and Windows, to help with clinical and preclinical research projects, including developing, implementing, and evaluating imaging data acquisition, reconstruction and visualization techniques. Responsible for proactively reviewing new technical developments related to clinical and preclinical imaging, and to propose new or alternative ways in accomplishing the goals of developing projects.

Project Planning and Coordination Plan, organize, coordinate and participate in existing and new scientific research projects; Determine specific goals and objectives to be obtained, evaluate research data and develop and revise techniques or approaches to work problems.

Grant Preparation, Presentation, and Reporting Participate in writing progress reports to the sponsoring agencies, preparation of manuscripts for publication in journals, and at scientific meetings, and assist with the preparation of research grant proposals.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.

Preferrred Education: Doctorate Degree

Required Experience: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.

Preferred Experience: Three years of programming experience and algorithm development. Proficiency with Matlab, C, C++, MySQL, python, or R.
