ROLE SUMMARY

The Assistant Process Development Technician will work within genetics and microbial fermentation development laboratories, under the direct supervision of a scientific lead. Primary interactions will be across both genetics and fermentation development teams.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform shake flask screening functions, and as required, assist in the running of lab fermenters, under the supervision of lead scientists, with detailed written instructions.
  • Make up media and turn around glassware to support the screening and development activities of the group.
  • Assist analytical team in making up of analytical reagents.
  • Follow the progress of experiments and operations by various analytical procedures or instruments. Notify scientist if process deviates from normal or expected values.
  • Plan/organize daily tasks. Maintain area and equipment in clean, safe, functional order. Participate in safety reviews and inspections.
  • Interpersonal, verbal, and written communications, analytical thinking, good computer skills and proficiency working in various software applications such as Microsoft Office and other Windows-based applications.


QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Have
  • At minimum a science-based associates degree prior laboratory experience.


Nice-to-Have
  • Previous experience in a microbiology laboratory environment including aseptic technique is desirable.
  • Previous experience in the running of shake flask screens is preferred.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Position involves considerable standing in the laboratory and working with the hands and arms.
  • Normal sitting, standing, walking, and lifting ability.
  • Must be able to work around a variety of chemical and biological materials.
  • Laboratory work is generally in a climate-controlled environment.


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work non-regular schedules as needed to accommodate the timing of laboratory procedures.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required.
  • Schedule is 1st shift.
