GlaxoSmithKline is looking for a highly motivated and creative Cell Biologist to join the department of Screening, Profiling & Mechanistic Biology (SPMB) at GSK's research facility in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. The primary responsibility of the SPMB department is to deliver high quality, biologically relevant pre-clinical leads for all GSK therapeutic areas, by employing a combination of scientific tools and methodologies, including but not limited to assay development, high throughput screening, compound profiling, and mechanism of action studies.

As a Cell Biologist in SPMB, your role would be to identify, develop, and implement high-throughput assay systems. Potential platforms include transcriptomic, genomic, metabolomic, and proteomic readouts. Applicants should have strong cell biology abilities, particularly with primary cells, and background in bioinformatics.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative and scientifically driven environment, interacting with GSK scientists with expertise in various disciplines. The successful candidate will design, develop and execute trans-omic methodologies to enable new capabilities to implement a broader strategy to support and guide drug discovery process in multiple disease areas within GSK.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in biological sciences (such as Cell Biology, Immunology, or Molecular Pharmacology) or computational biology
  • 3-5 years of lab-based experience in an academic or industry context
  • Experience with cell biology, cell culture, and cell-based assay development
  • Experience in implementation of trans-omic methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis and integration of multi-omics data (e.g. transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics) for disease research
  • Experience in a programming language (such as R or Python) for complex data analysis


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Independent planning and execution of experiments
  • Knowledge of and experience with common bioinformatics databases, resources and tools.
  • Experience with data and/or results from large scale differential gene expression analysis of compound and genetic perturbations.
  • Ability to work independently and in team-based settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
